MAR_EL  - (Marimba and Fixed Electronics)

Year: 2024

Composer: Michele Fondacci

MAR_EL is a piece for marimba and electronic fixed media that explores the relationship between acoustic and digital sound. It is a continuous and intense interaction between these two forms of expression. The marimba, usually thought of as having warm, rhythmic sounds, is now being combined with electronic music that has glitchy, noisy, distorted, and synthetic sounds. The marimba is not just responding to these sounds, but rather trying to blend in and copy them.

The piece was created by combining electronic music and marimba in a new way. Usually, electronic music tries to copy instruments like the marimba, but here the marimba is pushing the boundaries and trying new things that it normally wouldn't do. Using special techniques, moving parts, and a clever use of sound, the marimba can make sounds that seem electronic. These sounds are always changing and show how the marimba is affected by the digital world around it.

MAR_EL is an exploration of the mixing of sounds, a journey where human movement and technology meet, watch each other and mix together.
