C-86 - (Soundart/Installation)

Year: 2016

C–86 is an audio-video installation that celebrates two events: the thirtieth anniversary of the first historic compilation of independent music released in England, entitled C–86, and the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, which also happened in that year. Two events that seem unrelated come together in a work that makes you feel like you're really there. It's all about 1986, a year when different cultures and worlds collided and terrible things happened all over the world. The installation combines the raw and spontaneous sounds of early indie tracks with ambient recordings from abandoned places around Chernobyl. These include metallic echoes, silent moments, and the feeling of emptiness, which mix with jangly guitars and simple vocals. Together, they create a fragile, evocative, and dissonant soundscape.

It all happens in the old Refectory of San Pietro, where pictures on the walls and architecture are combined to create a new scene that is half ruin and half rebirth, half religious and half like the aftermath of a nuclear disaster. The images overlap with the historical details of the spaces, making the difference between past and future, and between the purity of classical form and the rawness of recent memory, clearer. C-86 is a journey through history, music and the effects of trauma on a large group of people. It is a connection between popular culture and the memory of geopolitical events, and between art and the desire to survive.
