ARCHIVIO DELLE MANI MAESTRE - (Installation/Sound Art)

Year: 2024

Sound Design: Michele Fondacci

It was created to honour the role of artisans in our lives and to represent our identity. Their hands, which shape matter, are the gateway to their workshops and hearts, where they can experience their touch intimately. Many people are saying that we need to promote Italian excellence, dedication, passion and the ability to create extraordinary works. These are qualities that are recognised around the world and need to be supported and communicated.

Mani Maestre is a way of protecting the examples of excellence that are kept alive by the will of individual artisans. These artisans are able to overcome huge difficulties to keep this traditional knowledge alive. Many younger people do not know about this, so Mani Maestre shows how important art and other jobs can be.

The exhibition and the project linked to it aim to create an environment in which visitors can feel like they are part of the same story through the identity of artisans: their hands. It is a time for open communities of artisans who know how to value each person's talents. They focus on master artisans and witnesses who can use different languages and specific skills. This is because artisans are the ones who preserve and nurture the history of beauty and care for things.

Mani Maestre is an immersive exhibition where visitors can physically interact with casts, allowing them to "feel" the artist's hand, as well as enjoying a multisensory experience, thanks to the voices of the protagonists, recorded during the creative process.
